This position performs accounting and administrative work and financial management and is responsible for fiscal accounting of disbursements, monitoring and recording cash and budget expenditures, coordinating and other duties as assigned by the supervisor. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Ability to pass a background check. One (1) year of progressively responsible bookkeeping, clerical and computer experience applicable to the work of the position OR Substituting on a month for month basis, any combination of experience, education, and training which would provide the level of knowledge and ability required.

Lateral Entry Deputy Sheriff

Closing Date: 12/31/2020

Whitman County's Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Lateral Deputy Sheriff eligibility list on a continual basis.

Applicants must be currently employed a minimum of twelve (12) consecutive months of full-time paid service or ending employment no earlier than 12 months prior to application, as a sworn police officer in a civilian governmental jurisdiction, tribal police officer in Washington state, natural resource investigators employed by the Washington department of natural resources, special agents employed by the Washington state gambling commission, or liquor enforcement officer. In addition, successful completion of the Washington State Basic Training Academy or State training academy in the state in which they are currently employed and the ability to successfully complete the Washington State Basic Training Equivalency Test within one (1) year after employment. Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age, no maximum age limit, and must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.

These qualifications must be met at the time of application and also at the time of appointment. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license prior to appointment is required.

Provisional or temporary employment is specifically excluded from consideration in meeting the minimum requirements.

SALARY: $4 353.00 per month plus benefits, DOQ.

Whitman County's Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Corrections Officer eligibility list on a continual basis. Testing will be completed when sufficient applications have been received.

The Whitman County Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Corrections Officer with the Whitman County Sheriff's Office. This testing procedure will establish a certified eligibility list from which applicants will be considered when positions become available within the Sheriff’s Office. This process will be subject to the rules of the Whitman County Civil Service Commission.

Temporary Job Pools

Temporary Pool positions are on an as needed basis within the County. A separate application must be filled out for each position job.  Applications will then remain current for 6 months from the date received.  Due to the nature of the positions work hours cannot be guaranteed.  Salary Ranges start at Washington State minimum wage and are determined by hiring departments, depending on position and experience.

Temporary Environmental Health Technicians

Closing Date: 7/31/2020

The Whitman County Health Department has two openings for Temporary Environmental Health Technicians. Both positions are for 40 hours a week and will be for up to six months.

The primary function of this position is to perform case investigation, contact tracing and data entry related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The additional role of the Environmental Health Technician (EHT) is the application and enforcement of Whitman County’s environmental and public health regulations under the direction of the Environmental Health Director. The majority of the work will be in our food program. The EHT must be able to communicate professionally and effectively with Environmental Health and Public Health supervisors and support staff, both verbally and in written reports. Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned by the EHT’s supervisor(s).

BASIC PURPOSE: Answer the telephone direct calls to proper person; Transfer calls; take messages, greet the public; communicate using verbal and listening skills; file alphabetically and numerically; type; prepare outgoing mail; operate copy machine; fax machine, calculator and type writer. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Six months of general clerical experience including reception duties, answering telephones, filing and typing.
