Perform receptionist, clerical, statistical, typing and word processing, and other related duties. Requires some independent judgment, interpretation, or analysis of data, policies and procedures. This position supports the Parks and Recreation Department, the Developmental Services Department, and the Emergency Management and Communications Department.

This is a specialized office support work requiring considerable attention to detail and the application of some independent judgment within policy and procedural guidelines. Positions of this class require considerable contact with the public and other County departments, private and public officials. Work requires the operation of a variety of office equipment and other assigned equipment where both speed and accuracy are necessary to contribute to proper office operations and efficient service to the general public. Heavy Equipment Operator-Bridge Crew

This is responsible road maintenance and construction work involving, on a continuing basis, the safe, efficient and skilled operation of heavy road maintenance equipment and the performance of manual work. Work of this class is distinguished by the skill level necessary to perform the more difficult operations for which the equipment is used, and/or significantly increased responsibility for the safety of employees working near or in conjunction with assigned equipment. Work requires employees to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in the performance and completion of assignments. This classification is characterized by the skilled operation, on a continuing basis, of one or more of the following equipment: bulldozers, hydraulic excavators, graders, welding equipment, truck, tractor and trailer as required.

Work is normally performed in the cab of assigned equipment or outdoors in all weather conditions.

Assistant Finance Administrator

This position assists the Finance Administrator in planning, organizing, directing and controlling the functions of the Auditor’s Accounting Department. Assists in the oversight of the County Finance System including User Permissions, Account Set up, Training of County Staff, Journal Review and Posting. Assists in the preparation of Year End reporting to the State; performs complex professional level accounting activities, tracks financial activities, and develops policies and procedures to ensure compliance with laws, rules and regulations. Tracks and analyzes revenues and expenditure accounts and acts as a lead to professional staff.

Under direction of the Financial Administrator, this position is responsible for assisting in a variety of duties in the Auditor’s Office Accounting department.

Environmental Health Technician

Under direction and supervision of the Environmental Health staff, the majority of the EH Tech responsibilities are: specialized clerical and administrative support. Additional responsibilities will include: the enforcement of Whitman County’s solid waste regulations, conducting routine food service establishment inspections, supporting onsite sewage program, and additional tasks as assigned.

The EHT must be able to communicate professionally and effectively with Environmental Health and Public Health supervisors and support staff, both verbally and in written reports. Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor(s).

Lateral Entry Deputy Sheriff

Whitman County's Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Lateral Deputy Sheriff eligibility list on a continual basis.

Applicants must be currently employed a minimum of twelve (12) consecutive months of full-time paid service or ending employment no earlier than 12 months prior to application, as a sworn police officer in a civilian governmental jurisdiction, tribal police officer in Washington state, natural resource investigators employed by the Washington department of natural resources, special agents employed by the Washington state gambling commission, or liquor enforcement officer. In addition, successful completion of the Washington State Basic Training Academy or State training academy in the state in which they are currently employed and the ability to successfully complete the Washington State Basic Training Equivalency Test within one (1) year after employment. Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age, no maximum age limit, and must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.

These qualifications must be met at the time of application and also at the time of appointment. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license prior to appointment is required.

Provisional or temporary employment is specifically excluded from consideration in meeting the minimum requirements.

SALARY: $4,143.00 per month plus benefits, DOQ.

The Whitman County Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Corrections Officer with the Whitman County Sheriff's Office. This testing procedure will establish a certified eligibility list from which applicants will be considered when positions become available within the Sheriff’s Office. This process will be subject to the rules of the Whitman County Civil Service Commission.

Temporary Job Pools

Temporary Pool positions are on an as needed basis within the County. A separate application must be filled out for each position job.  Applications will then remain current for 6 months from the date received.  Due to the nature of the positions work hours cannot be guaranteed.  Salary Ranges $9.47 - $10.50 per hour depending on position and experience.

Seasonal Park Aide

This is responsible work assisting the Operations Coordinators in the maintenance of the county parks and other facilities. Maintenance activities will include light construction, trail repair, landscaping, restoration, and day-to-day park and facility maintenance (mowing, restroom cleanup, special projects). Maintain and care for equipment and hand tools; detect needed repairs and make simple adjustments to equipment. Work will be performed primarily at Kamiak Butte County Park, Klemgard County Park, Wawawai County Park, and the Bill Chipman Palouse Trail.
