Assistant DOL Specialist

As a Vehicle/Vessel Licensing Agent for the Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL), and; under the direction of the County Auditor; oversees and manages Department of Licensing Accounting operations with the goals of ensuring effective workflow and compliance with Local, State and Federal regulations; Prepares and provides internal auditing and monitoring of the County’s Sub-Agencies including inventory of accountable items, proper title work, insurance and bonding requirements, and compliance with the extensive Washington State Department of Licensing policies and procedures; Advise the Auditor on critical issues and future needs; Work of this class involves considerable direct contact with the public including private and public company fleet managers, other county, state and federal agencies, county staff, and every individual who owns, buys sells, or transfers vehicles and/or vessels. Work requires extensive use of personal computers, specifically MSOffice; becoming Dept of Licensing Qualified within one year of hire, and certified within two years. Elections Supervisor

The Supervisor of Elections within the Elections and Voter Registration Division of the Whitman County Auditor’s Office directs the preparation and operation of county elections and has oversight of all aspects of voter registration within the county.

Under the direction of the County Auditor, this position is responsible for the secure, accessible and nonpartisan maintenance of the Whitman County voter rolls and the execution of all Whitman County Elections encompassing all elected positions for the county itself, all special purpose taxing district boards, councils, and mayors, and applicable Federal and State elected positions in addition to all issues, referenda, initiatives, advisory votes and propositions being brought before the voters. All work is completed under strict RCW (Revised Code of Washington), WAC (Washington Administrative Code), Washington State Secretary of State's Office Elections Division (OSOS), and Federal Election Law with non-negotiable deadlines.

Heavy Equipment Mechanic

This is skilled mechanical repair work performing a wide variety of duties associated with the maintenance of diesel, gasoline, and hydraulic and electrical systems on trucks, tractors, graders, bulldozers, backhoes, and other County equipment. Employees are required to have considerable knowledge of equipment systems and parts and are expected to independently inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical problems using electrical and mechanical testing equipment, hand tools, and a variety of power tools. Employees of this class will have a considerable amount of contact with the operators and equipment to determine the nature and extent of mechanical problems to be repaired. Employees of this class are responsible for all mechanical repairs on assigned equipment.

Work is normally performed in the County shop, however, employees of this class may be required to work in adverse weather conditions to repair equipment unable to return to the shop for service. In addition, work may at times require the repair of equipment of the solid waste compacting facility, requiring exposure to an unfavorable odorous environment.

Equipment Operator-Landfill

This is responsible landfill and transfer station work involving the safe, efficient, and highly skilled operation of a variety of heavy landfill and transfer station equipment and the performance of manual work. Work of this class is distinguished by the higher skill level necessary to perform the more difficult operations for which the equipment is used and/or significantly increased responsibility for the safety of employees working near or in conjunction with assigned equipment. Work requires employees to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in the performance and completion of assignments. This classification is characterized by the highly skilled operation on a continuing basis of one or more of the following equipment: bulldozer, front end loader, scraper, knuckleboom crane, baler, truck and trailers, and welding equipment. Work is normally performed in the cab of assigned equipment or outdoors in all weather conditions.

Lateral Entry Deputy Sheriff

Whitman County's Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Lateral Deputy Sheriff eligibility list on a continual basis.

Applicants must be currently employed a minimum of twelve (12) consecutive months of full-time paid service or ending employment no earlier than 12 months prior to application, as a sworn police officer in a civilian governmental jurisdiction, tribal police officer in Washington state, natural resource investigators employed by the Washington department of natural resources, special agents employed by the Washington state gambling commission, or liquor enforcement officer. In addition, successful completion of the Washington State Basic Training Academy or State training academy in the state in which they are currently employed and the ability to successfully complete the Washington State Basic Training Equivalency Test within one (1) year after employment. Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years of age, no maximum age limit, and must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.

These qualifications must be met at the time of application and also at the time of appointment. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license prior to appointment is required.

Provisional or temporary employment is specifically excluded from consideration in meeting the minimum requirements.

SALARY: $4,143.00 per month plus benefits, DOQ.

Whitman County's Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Corrections Officer eligibility list on a continual basis. Testing will be completed when sufficient applications have been received.

The Whitman County Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for Corrections Officer with the Whitman County Sheriff's Office. This testing procedure will establish a certified eligibility list from which applicants will be considered when positions become available within the Sheriff’s Office. This process will be subject to the rules of the Whitman County Civil Service Commission.

Temporary Job Pools

Temporary Pool positions are on an as needed basis within the County. A separate application must be filled out for each position job.  Applications will then remain current for 6 months from the date received.  Due to the nature of the positions work hours cannot be guaranteed.  Salary Ranges: Hourly - Current minimum wage or higher depending on position and experience.

Seasonal Park/Fair Aide

This is responsible work assisting the Operations Coordinators in the maintenance of the county fairgrounds.
