Observed public holidays for County operations are established by the Board of County Commissioners. Please note that most County employees work on a Monday through Friday schedule. For these employees and related operations, when a holiday falls on a non-workday (Saturday or Sunday) the holiday usually is observed on Monday (if the holiday falls on Sunday) or Friday (if the holiday falls on Saturday). For County employees that do not work a Monday through Friday schedule the observed holiday typically falls on the employee’s closest normal scheduled workday. Most County operations and facilities close for observed holidays; the Whitman County Landfill and Transfer Station are open the day after Thanksgiving.
